6.5 miles in 1hr 12 min!

Soooo as I have said before, I do love running.  I used to always do 3 miles for a standard run.  However, now that my workout is in the morning before work and I’m pressed for time, I’ve only been going two miles.  And on the treadmill at that cuz its so hot in FL.  I do love the treadmill - I like how it keeps you going at a steady pace, I listen to music and watch tv, and have my water bottle and towel right there in front of me.  I only started running outside last fall.  I became addicted!  I love the fresh air!  However, when I started on the treadmill again this summer, I realized how much I missed the treadmill.  Both the treadmill and outside have their pro’s and con’s.

Anyways, I have been meaning to do the 6.5 mi around a block in our town for months.  However, I either make it up the hill, decide I’ve had a good workout and go home, logging only 1.5 miles.  Or I’ll make it up the hill, continue to the round about, then turn back for home, logging only 3.6 mi.  Today I told myself its labor day, i have the day off work, i’m going to make it a great day, i’m doing that 6.5 I keep meaning to do.  I love starting off a new season w/ an inspirational long run –granted I know its not fall yet, but I am ready for this heat to be gone!  And these 75 degree mornings feel like fall in comparison to the normal 85 degree morns in FL.  Sooooooo I made it up the hill, continued on.  Made it to the round about, turned right.  And made it all the way back home, w/ no short cuts!  6.5 mi!  I typically run a ten min mile when I’m logging distance, so I expected w/ walking breaks that it would take me approx an hour and a half, at least if not longer.  NOPE — 1 hr 12 min!!!!

So now I’m super pumped for today, although I’m thinkin I may be super sore later haha.  I’m just so happy I did it!

I’m going to try to eat well today.  Yesterday I started the day off well - an omellette full of veggies.  Buuuut then I had two IPA’s ( loooots of carbs and cals ), 3 or 4 wings and 5 or 6 fried shrimp, a biiiig steak, and i’m sure other bad stuff.  Damn holiday weekend!!  Today I do need to re-load on carbs for my muscle redevelopment so I’m not super sore tomorrow, but good carbs like fruits and veggies.  I’m going to stay away from the candy at work ( I didn’t have ANY candy for two whole weeks, until last week that is oops ), and try to take my lunch.  If I don’t take my lunch, I’m going to do something healthy, a salad from Target Deli or a fruit and yogurt parfait from the Deli.

I’m going to make this a good week!!!  =)

feelin motivated …

So I haven’t been writing like I intended, but I really do want to give this a shot.  I think writing out my feelings will help me get rid of this 15-20 lbs!  I just got home from a HOT run outside … just 1.5 miles up a hill and back, and it killed me.  Noon in FL, even in Sept, is still not a good time for running.  I am excited for fall to get here and to get back to running outside.  I’d been keeping up w/ the treadmill — had a good productive two weeks of 3 morning workouts on the treadmill as well as arms and abs, and two great weeks at work.  However, then my schedule changed and instead of working at 9am and working out at 6:50am, I am going in at 10 or 11am now.  Soooo therefore the sleeping in all last week ended up in me not making it to the gym once!  This week I meant to go too, buuuut only went on Thursday.  And then went outside running (MISTAKE!) today.  I’ll still get in my 3 workouts by going tomorrow, but not running before work really affected my workday!  I was soooo tired and not motivated at work these last two weeks!!  I need to remember that next week when I think - oh wow, I can actually sleep in!  I want to still get up at 6:50, get in my workout, then enjoy my extra hour or two before work.  That way too I’ll still be on the same sleep schedule w/ my boyfriend like we had been.

I am writing this note to myself that when I feel like sleeping in instead of going to the gym cuz I think the sleep will do me good — The sleep will not do me good!  Working out will invigorate me and make my work day better!  I loooove running, even more than sleep, so why is sleeping in even being considered??

I haven’t been eating well once again.  I like leaving work for lunch, sooooo I go spend way too much money at restaurants where I eat way too much.  I want to start packing my lunch again, but then what do I do to kill an hour?  I guess I can go to a coffee shop and read or something, but then I’d be spending more money than I want too, and be tempted to get a dessert along w/ my coffee.  Plus, I don’t like eating in the breakroom at work .. its tiny and tends to smell weird haha.  Maybe I’ll look up a park nearby and go read a book and have lunch or something?

Also, I have been eating bad foods late at night again.  For example, last night the boy and I had loaded nachos at 9 or 10pm, and I had two tall beers.  Soooo unneccesary.  We need to come up w/ other fun activities that doesn’t include going out and eating.

Soooooo I’m saying it again –

Do not oversleep — get up early and work out cuz it will make me feel so much better, more awake, and better performance at work

Do not eat a lot at lunch!  Read a book or something.

Do not eat at night!

Do not spend money on food — fun activities w/ the boy instead!

Get rid of these extra pounds by my birthday!!

Ooops at night again!

Well, the food I ate today was good … once again until night.  I had a turkey and cheese on wheat sandwich around 10:30am, a blueberry/yogurt snack around 2pm, a grilled chicken salad at 3:30pm, a fruit/yogurt/granola at 6:30pm.  And that was supposed to be it.  But then I had a beer, waaay too many chips, and a turkey and cheese sandwich at 9:45.  I felt so good about diet day one, until tonight!!  I need to really remember this tomorrow evening.  I usually work 9-6, and work out at 6:50am.  However, this week I have to work 11-8 and our AC broke last night so I didn’t go running this morning.  I won’t tomorrow morning either.  The repairman comes tomorrow morn tho so I can work out Wed morning.  If I work out I will never cool off in this 85 degree townhouse!!  Well, tomorrow — good food ALL DAY AND NIGHT TOO!!!

Starting my birthday present to myself!!

So I signed up for this back in May and never started it.  I am not really overweight according to other people, but I do feel uncomfortable in my body.  I was always 125 lbs.  I gained 10 lbs in 2005.  Then I gained 5 more lbs over the years.  Since September I’ve gained 5 more.  Now I fluctuate all the way up to 150.  I will be 27 in two months and I’m 5′8″.  I am a generally happy person, but I do feel uncomfortable w/ this extra weight.  I would like to get back to 130.  My birthday is in two months … October 15.  Today is the day I start working on my birthday present to myself… my old beach body back .. and overall self-happiness!!  I miss being tone and feeling sexy!!

I do work out typically 3 or 4 times a week.  I love running.  I run usually 3 miles each outing.  I just started a new career and I’ve taken up running in the morning now .. and only 2 miles due to time.  I don’t really like other workouts, but I need to do more to tone my abs and arms. 

I think my main weight gain is from eating late at night, over-eating, and drinking.  That is my goal — to watch what and when I eat, and to really limit my going out w/ friends and drinking.  This will also help me save money.

 I always feel bad after a night of drinking or after I eat alot.  I’m just going to try and remember that bad feeling before I endulge.  Also, I will think of the great feeling of post-workout to encourage me to get up that extra hour early in the morning to work out.
